REVIEW: In your heart, you can feel like you’re flying when you trust in Jesus.
“Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.”
Isaiah 40:28 NIV
When I was a kid, if you had asked me to draw a picture of God, I know what I would have sketched. It would look like an old man with a long beard, sitting in the clouds.
I’m pretty sure God looks nothing like that.
Nobody on this earth knows what God looks like. His face is so glorious, it would be too much for us to take. However, the Bible paints a picture of God for us. But instead of using paint or markers, the Bible uses words to paint a picture.
God is Everlasting
As a kid, every December I’d watch “A Charlie Brown Christmas” on TV. It was on every year and was always part of our Christmas season. Today I have kids of my own, and they grew up watching it too. If they have kids someday, I bet they’ll watch it. Part of what makes that show special is it’s a tradition. It’s been on TV every Christmas season for a long time. Over 50 years! By TV show standards, it’s everlasting.
God was there before anything else was created. He has always been and will always be. Never changing, he’ll always be our loving Father. God was here when your parents were kids. When your grandparents were kids. When your great-grandparents were kids. He was always here. God is everlasting.
Creator of the Earth
Have you ever seen a mountain? They are amazing. So big, strong, and immovable. How about the ocean? It’s so huge it goes on forever. I’m sure you’ve looked at a few bugs. Isn’t amazing how they’re all different? Some are kind of cute, some kind of yucky, but all are interesting.
Mountains, oceans, and bugs have something very important in common. God made them all. Not only that, but there’s something else he made. If you want to see it, do one simple thing.
Go look in the mirror.
How great our God is who made everything we see everywhere! Including you!
He never grows weary
Have you ever been so tired that you couldn’t keep your eyes open? God is never tired. He never needs a nap. Not only that, but he never gives up, which means he will never give up on you. God never gets fussy or crabby like we sometimes do when we’re tired. He never runs out of breath like we do after running. He never gets weary.
So there is the Bible’s picture of God. He’s everlasting. He created everything, and he never gets tired. In Heaven, we’ll see with our eyes what he looks like, but for now word-pictures will have to be enough.
ASSIGNMENT: List five things God created that you love or are amazed by. Draw a picture of one of them.
PRAY: “Thank you, Lord, for who you are. Thank you that you’re everlasting, you created everything, and you never get tired.”
